What Is SPECSCON?

SPECSCON is the annual S P E C S (Sherre Padgett Education Consulting Services) Academic All-Stars Scholarship Readiness Conference, which showcases many of the top academic performers in the the south-eastern region, particularly in the state of Alabama.  Participants are rising 9th through 12th graders, with a GPA of 3.0 or above. Participants who have taken the ACT or SAT must have a minimum score of 20 or 1020, respectively.

The focus of SPECSCON is to provide information for young scholars and their parents for college preparedness and scholarship readiness, as well as the opportunity to engage with many college scholarship offices, admissions offices, private scholarship donors, and other relevant entities. The young scholars and their families that attend SPECSCON have spent their elementary, middle school, and secondary education years preparing for their post secondary experience. SPECSCON is where their preparation meets opportunity!

College representatives, scholarship donors, and other relevant entities from across the region will descend upon Auburn University, June 29 and 30, 2018, to come face to face with some of the brightest academic minds in the region. Friday, June 29th, will kick it all off with registration and a conference meet & greet event. The night will be capped off  with a dynamic presentation on being "Success-Ready", motivating participants and preparing them to approach the event with enthusiasm and the correct mentality in order to receive the maximum benefit from the opportunities presented.

Saturday, June 30th, will be filled with Conference presenters, sessions, and panel discussions. Continuing with the Scholarship Readiness theme and building on Friday night's "Success Ready" presentation, Saturday's presentations will include; "Service-Ready", "Academics-Ready", "Test-Ready" "Finance-Ready", and especially for the parents, "Parent-Ready", where parents will learn when and how to lead, to follow, and to get out of the way!

Saturday will culminate in the SPECSON 2018 Blue Carpet Gala Event, where participants will get to walk the blue carpet to the step and repeat banner to be photographed, enjoy a delicious dinner, and receive a memorable message from keynote speaker, Cappriccieo "Capp" Scates, United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Ambassador, SAE Institute adjunct professor, and entertainment industry icon.

SPECSCON 2018 is sponsored by the Auburn University Chapter of MANRRS (Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences).
